Culvert installation cost depends on the pipe size and length, the material (corrugated metal, HDPE, or concrete), the depth and headwall requirements, and how much dirt work is needed on either side. Correctly sizing a driveway culvert comes down to how much water it has to move during a heavy rain — not what looks right. Undersized culverts back up water and wash out driveways. We look at drainage area, slope, and existing flow patterns, and size the culvert (typically 12" to 36" or larger) to handle real Central Texas storms.

For most driveway and ranch road culverts in Central Texas we use corrugated metal or heavy-wall HDPE plastic, both of which handle Texas soils and weather well. Larger crossings sometimes call for concrete. We pick the material for the load and lifespan, not what's cheapest that day.

Culvert permits depend on where the driveway ties in. Culverts connecting to a county road or state right-of-way usually require a permit from the county or TxDOT; culverts entirely on private drives typically don't.
