Central Texas clay doesn't drain. It swells when it's wet, shrinks when it's dry, and holds standing water in every low spot on your property. That water kills grass, floats driveways, cuts gullies across pasture, and works its way toward the one place you don't want it — the foundation. Every year it's ignored, the fix gets more expensive.
We Fix Where the Water Comes From
Most failed drainage jobs are pipe laid in the wrong place. We walk the property, find the actual source and the actual low point, then build the fix around it — French drain, swale, regrade, culvert, or a combination. Everything gets real fall, a real outlet, and clean restoration on top.

Central Texas Ground Conditions
The Blackland Prairie clay around Waco, Hillsboro, and Temple barely lets water soak in, so runoff sits on top and collects in low spots. Water against a foundation on this soil also feeds shrink-swell movement. Regrading and surface drainage matter even more here than subsurface drains alone.
In Bosque and Coryell counties, thin soil over limestone means water runs off quickly and concentrates where the rock channels it. Erosion is the bigger problem there, and the fix often involves rock-lined channels and grading that slows water down.
What Affects the Cost
Drainage cost depends on the size of the area, the type of system, trench length and depth, how far water must travel to an outlet, rock, access for equipment, and how much surface restoration is needed afterward.

01What is a French drain and when do I need one?
A French drain is a gravel-filled trench with a perforated pipe in the bottom that collects water out of saturated ground and carries it somewhere safe to let go. You need one when water sits in the yard days after a rain, when a slope pushes runoff toward the house, when a crawl space or slab edge stays damp, or when a low spot has turned into a permanent mud hole.
02How deep does a French drain need to be?
Most yard and foundation French drains run 18 to 30 inches deep, sloped at least an inch every eight feet so gravity keeps water moving. Depth depends on where the water is coming from and where it can daylight. A drain dug flat, or one with no real outlet, fills with water and stops working — that's the most common failure we get called out to fix.
03Do you do drainage work on its own, or only with a bigger job?
On its own. Drainage is a standalone service for us — you don't need to be building anything to hire us. We do plenty of jobs that are nothing but a French drain, a regraded swale, and a proper outlet.
04Can drainage work stop water from getting under my foundation?
Usually, yes — most wet-foundation problems in Central Texas are surface-water problems. Grade that falls toward the house, gutters dumping at the slab, and clay soil that holds water are the usual culprits. Regrading the first ten feet around the structure, running a French drain along the wet side, and piping downspouts away solves the majority of it.
05What's the difference between a French drain, a swale, and a culvert?
A French drain moves water that's already in the ground. A swale is a shallow shaped channel that moves water across the surface. A culvert carries water under something — usually a driveway. Most properties need some combination, and picking the wrong one is why a lot of drainage work doesn't hold. We look at where the water actually comes from before we pick a fix.
06Do you handle erosion and washouts on acreage?
Yes. Cut gullies, washed-out ditches, eroding slopes, and pond overflow damage are regular work for us. Depending on the site that means rock-lined channels, reshaped swales, rip rap at outlets, check dams, or regrading the drainage path entirely.
07Do you do demolition too?
We do. Small structure demolition, concrete and slab removal, old barn and shed teardown, fence and pen removal, and haul-off — often alongside drainage or site prep, but as a standalone job as well.
